Remove The Bonnet Nut
Removing the bonnet nut from a Valley faucet

Now remove the brass bonnet nut that holds the cartridge in place. Use a big pair of pliers to unscrew the bonnet nut. This part could be tricky to remove especially if it has not been removed for many years.

Try positioning the pliers on the upper most part of the nut threads otherwise the nut could bind a bit while you squeeze. Be patient and don’t try to force the nut. If it does not come off easily apply some lubricant to the nut and let it sit for a few minutes before continuing.
