If you are tall or have tall visitors a low showerhead can be a real inconvenience. If you don’t have time or extra money to open up walls and remodel your shower you may think your only option is to put up with having to stoop in the shower.

Fortunately there is a quick and inexpensive way to raise your showerhead. You can install a shower arm extension between the existing shower arm and the showerhead. A shower arm extension can raise your showerhead several inches and requires only a few minutes and a couple of tools.

A shower arm extension can be purchased at a home improvement or hardware store. They come in several styles and finishes to match your existing showerhead.

To install a shower arm extension:

  1. Remove the showerhead (be careful to not scratch the finish)
  2. Apply Teflon tape to the end of the shower arm
  3. Attach the shower arm extension to the end of the shower arm (tighten with pliers)
  4. Apply Teflon tape to the male end of the shower arm extension
  5. Attach the showerhead to the shower arm extension (tighten with pliers)
  6. Adjust the angle of the extension as necessary
Note: when tightening the shower arm extension and the shower head with pliers make sure to not over-tighten as this can cause leaks or damage the fixture.
