Before You Buy a Dishwasher

From , former About.com Guide

Now a days, a dishwasher is considered an integral portion of the kitchen. Advances in building materials and new technology has made new dishwashers convenient, sleek and conservation minded.

New Coveted Features

  • Built in food disposers
  • Adjustable water-pressure controls
  • Tall bottom tubs for larger pots
  • Stainless steel tubs
  • Energy Star
  • LED displays
  • Sanicycle

Dishwasher Size and Types

More important to the buying process is how it will fit into your kitchen’s design. Dishwashers come in standard width of 24-inches. Custom cabinetry does not always accommodate these sizes. If hacking up a new cabinet strikes fear to the very depths of your being there are other options. Many models have portable counterparts. There are also drawer style models that lend themselves to a sleek-modern look.

A Note on Energy Star

It seems that almost everything has an Energy Star logo on it. But what does it really mean? In order to earn a Energy Star rating an appliance must use at least half the energy and resources that a standard model uses. On top of this, it also has to maintain the same level of performance of their less conservation minded counterparts. While the price tag might be a bit heavier, the savings in annual utility bills should more than make up the difference.
