Moist Patch Of Yard Might Mean A Leak

Now that the days are getting warmer and we are spending more time outside it is a good time to keep an eye out for signs of a leak. One easily overlooked tell tale sign of a leak is a perpetually moist patch in the yard.

Moisture can be easily hidden by grass and shrubs in your yard so a leak can go undetected for some time. This is especially true if you have a densely landscaped yard.

To inspect for leaks look over landscaped areas as well as seldom used areas of the yard. It is best to do this when you expect the ground to be dry, so not too soon after rain or watering.

Things to look for:

  • Standing puddles of water (when it hasn't rained)
  • Soggy grass
  • Unusually green vegetation (as compared to surrounding plants)

An area of grass or dirt that doesn't seem to be drying up should be investigated to rule out a broken water pipe. The problem might be an easy to fix sprinkler line but it is best to be sure and fix it as soon as possible.
