Do you think a midnight plumbing emergency has to cost you a bundle? Not necessarily. If you don't panic you can save yourself the high cost of a 24 hour plumber.

Here is what to do if plumbing emergency arises in the middle of the night or on the weekend.

  1. Stop any running water - turning off the water can prevent additional damage. If you can shut the water off the repair can often wait until morning.
  2. Isolate the fixture - if you can isolate the problem and can avoid using that fixture leave it until the next business day. A blocked sink or toilet can be left alone as long as you have another you can use.
  3. Identify the problem - try to pinpoint the problem as closely as you can. If you can get a good idea about what needs to be repaired you can shop for a plumbing quote.

If the problem is such that you cannot avoid calling an all night plumber be prepared with clear information and specific questions. Knowing when to call a 24 hour plumber and knowing what to ask can save you money.

Not every plumbing emergency requires a call to a 24 hour plumber. Save yourself the high cost of an emergency plumber by staying calm.
