What Can You Flush Down The Toilet?

By January 15, 2011

Follow me on:

Really, the only thing you should flush down the toilet is toilet paper. Toilet paper is made to break down in water and therefore, rarely causes a blockage.

Other paper products such as facial tissue, paper towels, napkins, and baby wipes should not be flushed because they do not break down. While they may go down out of sight they could be building up in the pipes and can end up causing a toilet blockage.

Other things I have found and don't recommend putting down the toilet:

  • Q-tips
  • tooth brushes
  • hair clips
  • small perfume bottles
  • hair brush
  • toys
  • ID cards (especially if you don't want to be identified)
  • potatoes (yes, I found a whole potato)

And the list goes on...

author didn’t mention anything about tampons or cardboard applicators, which every woman flushes with regularity.

I appreciate this information. I’m glad there’s the Internet. I thought about flushing facial tissue, paper towels, napkins, and baby wipes down the toilet. I now know that they shouldn’t be flushed because they do not break down.

I don’t recommend cucumbers as well. I actually had to pull a toilet to clear it. Guess what?

I accidentally flushed my retainer one time. The dentist wasn’t very happy that he had to make a new one to say the least.

BEFORE FLUSHING ANY PAPER TISSUE TOWEL ETC. INTO TOILET, IT IS GOOD IDEA TO TEST IT . JUST FILL THE SINK WITH WATER AND PUT THE TISSUE INTO, AND SEE IF IT DISSOLVES EASILY
